Welcome to the Drama Farm Forum! We're glad you stopped by - now how about telling us a little bit about yourself? What do you do? What brought you here? What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Here, I'll start:
I'm Sarah Deutsch, founder of the Drama Farm. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, went to Carnegie Mellon for theatre, and then headed for glorious San Francisco, CA. Now I live in Alameda, a great little island right across the bay from SF, and I think it's the perfect place to start something like the Drama Farm. Who wouldn't want to do theatre on a Pacific island? ;)
I'm currently self-employed as a freelance personal assistant (check out my website - http://www.pinkleberry.com - for more info!), and I stage manage 2 or 3 shows a year. When I'm not working on the Drama Farm, I spend my free time reading, walking, knitting, and hanging out with my family. Oh, and eating ice cream - two scoops of chocolate chip with rainbow sprinkles for me!
I'm the first member! Woohoo! Sarah, you already know me, but well, just thought I'd post this for the future members. =).
Haha. Ok, I'm Derrick Kwa. From Singapore.
I turn 17 in a month or so. Quite school at the start of 2007, because I found it to be too restrictive and boring. Just been exploring the various opportunities and all since then. Been blogging at http://derrickkwa.blogspot.com/ for about 5-6 months now, on a range of topics from education to personal development. I'm not really a drama person, but I really like the ideas behind the Drama Farm, and that's why I'm here. Ice cream...hm....Chocolate? Or Bubble gum-flavored. Yeah.
Hey, Derrick! Welcome to the Forum! And congrats on being the very first member!
It's great to have you here - I'm really looking forward to having your input on what we're doing. The more people we've got involved, the better it will be!
hi sarah!
you already know i'm andrea, and you already know i went to carnegie mellon school of drama too, for scenic design. what you may not know is that i have a masters degree in art education and am muddling my way through a choose-your-own-adventure masters in the heinz school in (wait for it) "educational leadership in the arts", which is really just a combination of arts management, educational leadership, and non profit management. whew. in the meantime, i'm the studio arts educator at the children's museum of pittsburgh and about to become the assist director of education. oh and i'm also a mom.
i'm here because i think this is fascinating and totally the right model for informal education. i could wax pedagogical on you all, but i won't. and my favorite ice cream flavor is bryer's (and only bryer's) mint chocolate chip.
Good news! I am returning to the Bay Area. Beginning this summer, I will be back, and in the fall I begin my new job as a theater teacher in a new performing arts high school. I am very excited for the obvious reasons, but it also means that I will be up here, able and willing to take a more active role in Drama Farm, whatever that may be.
